About Lewis Research

Lewis Research, Inc., is a tribological testing facility and test equipment manufacturer. Established in 1985, our laboratory currently uses dozens of test stations including: thrust bearing, pin-on-washer, bushing, reciprocating bar, and gear. We routinely adapt our equipment - or add new equipment - to simulate field conditions involving lubrication, atmosphere, temperature, tribo-chemical, and others. We conduct hundreds of individual tests with tens of thousands of machine hours a year. Our success lies in the observation and analysis of over 4 million hours of testing.

We offer a wide range of tribological machines able to relate to numerous types of end-use applications. Our top-selling machine, the LRI-1a, is a state-of-the-art computer-controlled and monitored tribometer with real time wear, friction, temperature, and optional acoustic emission monitoring. It is based on the widely used thrust bearing tester designed by our president - over forty years ago - conforming to ASTM D-3702. It can be used to provide more comprehensive tribological data faster and with reduced labor. Our latest machine, the LRI-2gl, provides state-of-the-art computer-controlled and monitored life testing of plastic gears. The LRI-2gl has special features including transmission error monitoring, automated back-lash detection, and acoustic emission monitoring. In addition to our standard machines, we can work with you to design and build custom test equipment to meet your specific requirements.

We fully support the equipment we sell with in-house software expertise and a stock of spare parts for immediate delivery.
